Description
The Original Crypts and Catacombs of Rome Tour starts by meeting your expert historian guide in Piazza Barberini, beside the fountain of Triton. Interestingly, this piazza was used as the location for displaying human corpses which needed public identification up until the 1800s.
Visit the Capuchin Crypts
The tour's centerpiece is the Capuchin Crypt, now enhanced by the official Capuchin Museum. Admire Caravaggio's masterpiece, "St. Francis in Meditation," and explore relics from the life of St. Francis. Venture into the crypt itself, where the bones of 4,000 Capuchin monks are artistically arranged on its walls.
Explore the Sacred Christian Catacombs
From here you’ll be driven on a comfortable coach to the extensive Christian Catacombs which were dug out of the ground over 2000 years ago. Your expert historian guide will explain how this network of sacred tunnels is associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. You’ll descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock and discover the frescoes, strange iconography and burial places which doubled as places of worship when the Christians were persecuted.
Final Stop: Basilica of San Martino ai Monti
Your journey will lead you to the Basilica of San Martino ai Monti, a lesser-known yet fascinating church in the heart of Rome. Dating back to the 4th century, this hidden treasure stands atop ancient Roman ruins and offers a glimpse into the city’s rich religious heritage. Admire its stunning Baroque frescoes, intricate mosaics, and the remains of an early Christian titulus, one of the first places where Romans secretly gathered to worship. Below the church, discover an underground world of archaeological layers, revealing centuries of devotion and transformation.

The kind of thing you still remember years later. Punctual and smooth, no hiccups. We used expert english tour guide the whole time and it worked perfectly. Frequency between buses could be better at the later stops. Five well earned stars.

Fomos surpreendidos positivamente.

A solid way to see Roma. The return time was kept to the minute. Very friendly guide, though the group was large and they could not reach everyone. Only gripe: the group was a bit larger than we expected. There is room to improve, but no regrets.

Muito bom
Satisfeitos, mesmo sem ter sido perfeito. A região de Catacumbas Cristianas Hollywood à noite é outra coisa. Gostaríamos de mais variedade no prato principal.

Amazing day
Much better than I had imagined. The entrance ticket and audio guide to the Capuchin Crypt and Museum arrived exactly when we needed it. The ground staff were friendly from first contact. One of the best things we have booked online.
