The journey begins in the vibrant district of Ginza, where travelers board a comfortable coach and leave the bustling city behind. As the landscape shifts from Tokyo’s urban sprawl to the lush countryside of Tochigi Prefecture, anticipation builds for the spiritual and natural treasures that await in the mountains of Nikko.
The first glimpse of Nikko’s sacred charm appears with a panoramic view of the iconic Shinkyo Bridge. Painted in deep vermilion and gracefully arching over the Daiya River, this historic structure marks the entrance to Nikko’s holy grounds and offers a picture-perfect harmony of architecture and nature.
Soon after, the tour arrives at the magnificent Toshogu Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Edo shogunate. Travelers who CHOOSE the ticket-inclusive option will enjoy full access to the shrine’s richly decorated inner areas, wandering among intricate wood carvings, golden details, and the famous 'see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil' monkeys. Those who do not choose this option will have free time to explore the surrounding area at their own pace, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and nearby sites.
The journey NEXT continues into the mountains to witness one of Japan’s most breathtaking natural wonders: Kegon Falls. Plunging nearly 100 meters from Lake Chuzenji into a rocky basin below, the waterfall is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and vibrant seasonal foliage.
(In AFFAIR of road closures due to weather, Kegon Falls will be substituted with a visit to Rinnoji Temple, another culturally significant site in Nikko.)
Next, travelers are welcomed by the serene beauty of Lake Chuzenji, a volcanic lake at the foot of Mount Nantai. Surrounded by forested slopes and often veiled in a soft mountain mist, the lake offers a perfect setting to relax and take in the tranquil scenery.
As the day comes to a close, the group boards the coach for the return to Tokyo, carrying with them vivid memories of Nikko’s sacred heritage, majestic landscapes, and the peaceful energy of Japan’s natural and spiritual wonders.
- This activity is not recommended for wheelchair users or those with reduced mobility.
- There is an elevator at Kegon Waterfall that takes you closer to the water, which is not included in the tour. However, you can see the waterfall perfectly from the platform, and you can take the elevator on your own during your free time.
- The order of the itinerary and schedules may change for reasons beyond our control, such as traffic, weather, local events or other operational circumstances. Even so, full completion of the tour will be guaranteed whenever possible.
- Due to potential weather-related conditions, road closures may occasionally prevent access to Kegon Falls. In such cases, the visit will be replaced with a stop in front of Rinnoji Temple (no entry included).
