The capital of the Balearic Islands, Palma de Mallorca is a city with a long history and a rich culture. It’s one of the jewels of the Mediterranean. So, hop on the big red City Sightseeing bus and start exploring its many treasures.
There are more than a dozen stops that you can hop off at along the route so you’ll get to see all the city. First, why not hop off at Plaça del Mercat, a picturesque square where you can sit an enjoy a coffee before you start sightseeing in earnest. The next place we recommend visiting is Poble Espanyol, an enormous open-air museum that features elements of architecture from every part of Spain, including a recreation of one of the Alhambra’s famous patios.
When it comes to things you can’t miss, the cathedral, known as la Seu, is definitely one of them. This magnificent gothic construction has dominated the city’s skyline for centuries. Hop off at Antoni Maura and make sure you pay it a visit. And just alongside is The Royal Place of la Almudaina, a beautiful 14th-century building, which is still the summer residence of the Spanish royal family.
After a cathedral and a palace, a castle is the next place you should hop off. Bellver Castle, to be precise. Standing on a hill above the city, it really is a spectacular sight. Its name comes from 'beautiful view' in old Catalan and the views are indeed that, whether looking at the castle itself, over the city or out to sea.
For a closer look at the sea, hop off at Passeig Maritim and you can take a walk along the harbour front and see the many boats in the marina. And if shopping appeals, hop off at the Moll Commercial. Whatever you want to do, you’ll find it in Palma and the City Sightseeing bus will take you there. You can choose a 24 hour ticket according to how long you want to spend exploring.
