Prepare for a unique and unforgettable experience in the majestic Los Glaciares National Park. The excursion begins with passenger pick-up in El Calafate (if you choose the option with transfers). On our comfortable buses, en route to Los Glaciares National Park, tour guides will provide information about the area, the glacier, and the excursion.
Once at the "Bajo de las Sombras" port (Route 11, 70 km from El Calafate), you will board a boat to cross Lake Rico, arriving on the opposite shore after approximately 20 minutes of sailing in front of the imposing southern face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Upon disembarking, you will be greeted by our expert mountain guides, who will lead you to a cozy refuge with a privileged view of the glacier. From here, the trek begins! We will start the tour with a walk along the lake shore, keeping our eyes on the glacier to ensure we don't miss the opportunity to witness calving. Next, the guides will give a talk on glaciology.
Upon reaching the edge of the glacier, with the stunning blue hues of the ice framing the landscape, you will be fitted with crampons and helmets. Once on the glacier, you will receive a safety briefing and then walk to enjoy this frozen paradise, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The glacier circuit is of medium difficulty; the ice surface is uneven but firm and safe. During the walk, you will be able to appreciate a variety of typical glacial formations such as deep crevasses, blue sinkholes, enormous seracs, and turquoise lagoons.
After completing the ice walk, you will explore the periglacial zone and the lateral moraine, from where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Perito Moreno Glacier, the mountains, and the lake. Then, you will begin the return journey along a trail that winds through the lush Patagonian Andean forest, completing the three-hour hike along the lake shore, ice, and forest (of which approximately one hour is spent on the glacial ice). Shortly after, you will board the boat to return to Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, but before departing, you will admire the enormous walls of the glacier from the water.
The excursion, including transportation, lasts approximately ten hours and includes a one-hour guided tour of the Perito Moreno Glacier walkways, located 7 km from the port (this guided tour is not included if you choose the option without transportation). There, you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the glacier and explore one of the self-guided trails. If you choose not to use our transportation and go on your own, the mini-trekking lasts approximately four and a half hours, departing from and returning to the port.
The mini-trekking takes place in a natural environment, so weather conditions and the characteristics of the glacier and its surroundings change daily. However, the excursion will not be canceled as long as safety conditions permit. We look forward to seeing you!
